Confindustria Moda (Italy Fashion Industry Federation) also released some data on Italy's fashion and luxury industry: in 2018, the total sales volume of 6.6 enterprises in the industry reached 95 billion 500 million euros, up 0.7% over the same period last year; the total number of employees exceeded 580 thousand; and 70% of goods exported to overseas amounted to about 63 billion 400 million euros, up 2.7% over the same period last year.

Luxottica, which ranked first in total sales, dropped 2.8% in 2018. They are not the only ones that have seen a decline in sales. Of the top 15 companies, 8 have slipped, some of them falling as follows: OTB (-3.2%), Ferragamo (-3.3%), Bottega Veneta (-5.7%) and Safilo (-7%).

Pambianco's chief executive, David Pambianco, said: "the transcripts submitted by the first 25 companies indicate that the overall situation of Italy's fashion industry is not satisfactory. Facing the fierce competition in the global market, the scale of enterprises under the traditional fashion business mode in Italy is still too small, and there is also lack of experience in commercial digitalization.

According to the industrial 4 observation report released by Politecn Milan, in 2018, 50% of the large and medium-sized enterprises in Italy launched the industrial 4 plan (i.e. digitalization in the industrial production and logistics links), while in the small and medium enterprises, the proportion was less than 10%.
