The European Union issued the 2010/153/EU to extend the ban on the Dimethylfumarate (DMF) ban for two years, until March 15, 2011.

Fumaric acid two methyl ester (DMF) has a strong broad-spectrum sterilization effect, can inhibit more than 30 kinds of common bacteria, yeasts and molds, is widely used in leather, footwear, textiles, bamboo and wood products and other sterilization and moldy treatment.

Excessive use of two methyl fumarate (DMF) may cause skin allergies, rashes or burns.

The implementation of the decision will affect the export of leather, footwear, textiles, bamboo and wood products to the European Union.

It is understood that in March 17, 2009, the European Commission approved the decision of Member States to guarantee that products containing two DMF of fumaric acid (2009/251/EC) should not be put on the market or sell the product. (2009/251/EC), since May 1, 2009, the EU member states have banned the sale of consumer goods with a DMF content of more than 0.1 ppm or sold on the market. Products that have been put on the market or sold in the market should be recovered from the market and consumers.

The decision is valid until March 17, 2010.

In fact, before the ban on DMF at the EU level, some Member States realized the harm of DMF to human health and issued a ban.

France banned the use of DMF in chairs and footwear in December 2008. The ban was valid for one year. Belgium banned the use of DMF in all products in January 2009. Spain banned all DMF products from skin contact in January 2009.

The DMF ban issued by the European Union is based on the thirteenth item of 2001/95/EC (GPSD). The committee, after recognizing the serious dangers posed by specific products, has approved emergency measures after consultation with Member States. The measure is generally less than one year and can be extended for no more than one year under the same sequence.
