The cotton area of four key cotton producing cities in Handan, Xingtai, Hengshui and Cangzhou remained basically stable, with no major ups and downs, and played an important role in stabilizing the cotton area in the whole province.

The main reason for the decrease of cotton area is: last autumn continuous rainy weather caused the Cotton Boll Rot, resulting in the decrease in yield per unit area and the decrease of the quality of cotton, which affected the enthusiasm of cotton growers. During this year, the dry weather and the lack of soil moisture in the suitable sowing period required planting and sowing. Many cotton farmers gave up cotton for lack of time. In addition, the cotton preferential policies and measures were smaller than those of grain and oil crops, and the cotton prices were unstable, which hurt the enthusiasm of cotton growers.

This year's cotton growth period, such as low temperature, rain and other natural disasters, is heavier than the whole year. The cotton production concept in the whole province is late sowing, late emergence, rapid growth, light disease and overgrown peach.

Nevertheless, due to the popularity of fine varieties and the high rate of key technology, this year, the popularization rate of cotton varieties and the key technology in the province accounted for more than 97% of the total cotton field area, the area of insect resistant cotton accounted for 99.9%, the area of machine sowing reached 94%, the rate of superior seed reached over 96%, and the plots of over 95% of the plots were used for seed removal and the cotton intercropping area was over 20%.
