Continuous Fermentation, Chanel Canceled Hongkong Big Show Rumors Intensified
The brand side said Chanel's big show in Hongkong is still undecided, but many luxury brands and retailers have been lying down.
Hongkong, China -- on Thursday, the South China Morning Post quoted intelligence sources as saying that Chanel had cancelled its 2020 early spring show that was originally scheduled for Hongkong. The report further pushed the rumours of the past to the top of the storm.
BoF first learned from Chanel in July 31st that the brand will pay close attention to the trend of the situation, and has yet to make a final decision. On Thursday, a spokesman for Chanel and the South China Morning Post continued to insist on the same statement.
Because of the ongoing protests and incidents in Hongkong, sales and activities of many luxury brands and retailers have been affected. Celebrities magazine and Hongkong edition "Tatler" cancelled the Tatler dance originally scheduled for November 1st, which is the most important activity of the publication year. K11 Musea, the newly opened art store, has decided to postpone the opening party originally scheduled for November 22nd. It is reported that in recent weeks, many brands including Sephora, Hugo Boss, Dior and Rimowa have cancelled or reduced the activities held in Hongkong.
Despite the announcement of the abolition of the Fugitive Offenders Ordinance by the chief executive of Hongkong, the Hongkong stock market and a large number of luxury goods prices have risen, but the situation is still fermented. If the situation is not entirely clear, it will bring great risks to the brand. Even if such activities are cancelled, millions of dollars will be lost in the short term. For the entire series of design and show building around the city's Chanel, the impact is immeasurable.
South China Morning Post reporter Vincenzo La Torre wrote in the article: "in the foreseeable future, some brands are unlikely to hold regional or global publishing activities in Hongkong because mainland China's stars and KOL will not participate."
BoF is actively associated with the Chanel brand to get further information.
