Data released by the commerce department on Wednesday showed that the merchandise trade deficit widened to $80.3 billion from $79.4 billion in September. Imports increased by 2.2% to $206.3 billion, the highest level since September 2019, and exports increased by 2.8% to $126 billion.

The data show that Trump's practice of changing the US trade policy has achieved some results before the outbreak of the health event, but the disruption of the supply chain and demand by the health event has made it impossible to achieve the goal of reducing the trade deficit, and the import and export have improved compared with the beginning of the crisis.
