Zheng Daqing introduced that BASF's commitment to sustainable development began in 1994, and the concept of sustainable development has always been an important cornerstone of BASF. Since January this year, with the government issued guidelines to strengthen the control of plastic pollution, biodegradable materials have attracted much attention in China.

BASF has expanded its product line of biodegradable plastic mixtures by launching ecovio f mulch, a new plastic used to produce agricultural mulch films. Compared with the agricultural films made of ordinary polyethylene (PE) plastics, ecovio f mulch films can be biodegradable. Farmers don't need to clean up or recycle the crops after harvest, they just need to bury them in the soil together with crop residues, which can save time and cost greatly. The production of this kind of film is also economical because it can achieve the same performance as ordinary PE film with smaller thickness.

Through the development breakthrough technology of carbon management project, it can reduce carbon emission. BASF also realizes closed-loop as far as possible through chemical innovation, so as to make the best use of products and resources in the whole value chain, and actively promote the circular economy.

According to Zheng Daqing, BASF launched the "chemical recycling" project in 2019. Through cooperation with waste recycling companies, technology suppliers and packaging manufacturers, it has established a plastic recycling system, turning low-value, non recycled plastic waste into treasure, and using "chemical cycle" as a supplement to mechanical cycle, thus establishing a plastic recycling value chain.

In the face of this year's sudden outbreak of new crown pneumonia, BASF, as a supplier of raw materials for health products and epidemic prevention materials, has taken active actions in China to ensure the supply of relevant raw materials for the downstream key materials for epidemic prevention and control. At the same time, it also donated 2.1 million yuan RMB, and donated 650000 yuan worth of medical protection articles and health products.
