Singapore Calls On ASEAN And China To Seek New Opportunities For Economic Cooperation

Several senior Singapore officials said recently that ASEAN and China should seek new opportunities for economic cooperation.

The 2021 "Insight China Global Forum" held by the Singapore Trade Exchange and cooperation promotion organization "Trade China" opened in Singapore on December 12. Wang Ruijie, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of economic policy coordination of Singapore, said at the forum that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of dialogue relations between ASEAN and China. Over the past 30 years, the relations between ASEAN and China have been developing vigorously and deepening continuously, benefiting the people of both sides. Today, ASEAN and China are each other's largest trading partners. Both sides should seek new opportunities on this solid foundation and strengthen cooperation in digitization and sustainable development.

Singapore's minister of trade and industry Yan Jinyong said at the forum that Singapore and ASEAN can continue to maintain strong economic ties with China and strengthen physical and digital trade.

Wang Yikang, Minister of health of Singapore and Singapore co chairman of the Singapore Guangdong Cooperation Council, said that the new international land sea trade channel has strengthened the economic and trade ties between Southeast Asia and China, and the digital and financial connectivity between the two sides is becoming increasingly important. He said that, driven by the strong development momentum of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Bay area, the cooperation between Singapore and Guangdong has a lot of room for development.
