Designers design for their own brands and have independent autonomy over brands; In terms of commercial scale, designer brands pay more attention to the uniqueness of design, and the audience of consumer groups is smaller than that of commercial brands; Designer brands pay more attention to the design strategy of taking creativity as the dominant factor, compared with the commercial brand taking market demand as the dominant design strategy, which does not mean that designer brands must not be commercial, Commercial brands have no creativity, but the question of which side is more dominant.

The designer brand strongly reflects the designer's personal style and aesthetics, and the brand name is often associated with the designer's personal name.

As a new category, Chinese designer brands, through the incubation of major domestic fashion weeks in recent years, have gradually moved to the international stage and received attention and recognition from the international fashion circle. There are deconstruction, minimalism, dark gothic style, romantic craft aesthetic style, as well as asexualism, Y2K aesthetics, surrealism style, new Chinese style, and oriental sweet and cool girl style formed on this basis, which are gradually accepted by Chinese consumers.

We always say that there are no good brands in China, but in fact, China never lacks good brands, and what is lacking is always respect and confidence!

In this article, we will take a good look at the local designer brands that are small and have great market power. In the process of making an inventory of these outstanding Chinese designer brands, the more we understand, the more we feel. We hope that you can pay more attention and respect to Chinese design, and Chinese brands can also develop more confidently and steadily.

The Global Fashion Intelligence Bureau makes people fully understand the diversification of Chinese designer brands and their booming development in recent years by sorting out and classifying the founders, founding time, graduation colleges, brand operation registration places, style positioning, etc. of various designer brands, I hope to give some references to the insiders and provide decision-making references for the introduction of brands in commercial real estate, shopping malls and major buyer stores across the country.

Through the inventory of 160 excellent designer brands, we found these 8 characteristics:

1. Many designers and brand founders have the aura of high education, such as graduating from famous schools and studying abroad

59 brand founders graduated from four major design schools in the world: Central Saint Martin School of Art and Design in London, Parsons School of Design in New York, Milan Malanioni School of Design, and ESMOD, Paris Institute of High Fashion;

Famous domestic schools graduated from: Central Academy of Fine Arts, China Academy of Fine Arts, Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University, Shanghai Donghua University, Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology, etc.

2. Gender of designers: women account for a large proportion of designers, and men are not far behind

There are 112 female designers and 85 male designers (the total number exceeds 160, because some brands are co founded), accounting for 57% and 43% respectively.

3. Most designer brands were founded in 2011 or later, accounting for more than 80%

From 1990 to 2000, there were 2, accounting for 1.3%; 25 from 2001 to 2010, accounting for 15.6%; Since 2011, there have been 133, accounting for 83.1%.

4. The operation and registration places of designer brands are widely distributed: Shanghai has the most, and the city of fashion flourishes everywhere

There are 77 in Shanghai, 22 in Shenzhen, 19 in Beijing, 10 in Guangzhou, 7 in Xiamen, as well as Hangzhou, Ningbo, Jiaxing, Tianjin, Zhengzhou, Wuhan, Chengdu, Qingdao, Dongguan, Zhuhai, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

5. At present, most Chinese designer brands have opened offline independent stores

Many brands have entered global well-known and local first-line benchmark buyer stores.

6. The integration trend of designer brands and commercial brands

That is to say, it will develop into a design commercial brand and enter more sales channels, such as shopping centers, department stores, commercial streets, e-commerce platforms, etc.

7. Most brands are named in English. There are 60 brands with the same name (Chinese/English name) as the designer, accounting for 37%

Chinese designers like to use English names. In fact, Chinese designer brands lack national confidence. It is a long way to go to strengthen and highlight Chinese brand names and build national confidence of Chinese local brands.

The naming of "Dongliang" and "Yishangmen", the local benchmark buyer stores in China, has profound connotation of traditional Chinese culture and philosophy, and can be said to be a very excellent classic example of Chinese local brand naming in recent years.

Strong fashion brands must have their own cultural roots. Each international brand more or less contains some local elements, such as Chanel and Hermes representing French romance, Gucci and Versace representing Italian style, RafLauren and Nike representing the American spirit of free struggle, and so on.

Only by being faithful to its origin can Chinese brands find their own foothold in a diverse, trivial and convergent world.

8. The exploration and practice of Chinese cutting-edge designers in sustainable fashion are becoming more and more diverse

For example, through the application of more environment-friendly fabrics, the concept of green ecological design, simple product aesthetics, minimalist style, etc. are all continuous innovations of sustainable fashion.
