Bangladesh Dada Company has achieved rapid development through the Expo, helping more than 2000 local women increase their income——
Jute weaving for a better life
Exquisite carpets, wall decorations, practical baskets, handbags, and charmingly naive animal shaped decorations... In the consumer goods exhibition area of the Seventh China International Fair, the jute handicrafts displayed by Bangladesh Dada Company are favored by many visitors. "This year we have brought more than 200 exhibits, demonstrating the traditional crafts and cultural characteristics of Bangladesh," said Saf, the founder of Dada. Since 2018, Dada Company has participated in all previous advanced expositions. The company has also developed from a small and micro enterprise with only 10 employees to a well-known local enterprise with more than 2000 employees. "By participating in the Expo, the company has gained a lot of business opportunities and employees have a better life." Sapf said that the Expo has provided broad market opportunities and contributed to poverty reduction in developing countries and global sustainable development.
"I cherish this job opportunity"
It is more than 3 hours' drive from the town of Brabo to Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. When the car drove into the town, several women were drying jute on the open land beside the river. In the hot sun, jute shows golden luster. In Brabo, many families make their living by making jute handicrafts. The workshop of Dada Company is located here.
Shi Pang, the workshop director, led the reporters to the warehouse, and the ground was filled with piles of jute. Shi Pang picked up a twisted jute and said, "These are all made by hand, and later can be made into coasters, carpets, etc. The preliminary weaving work of jute is usually assigned to women in the town, which brings them rare employment opportunities and improves the family situation."
In a clearing, dozens of women gathered together to weave jute. They skillfully split the soft jute into three strands, and with the rapid turnover of the wrist, the three strands of jute were firmly twisted together. Soon, a long "braid" was finished. Niasha, 40, lives by farming. She told the reporter that she has extra income by weaving jute, which can subsidize family and provide school for children. She has a richer life and more sense of achievement.
In the workshop of Dada Company, dozens of women perform their own duties: some operate sewing machines, and jute is gradually organized and shaped under their hands, turning into coasters and storage boxes; Some carefully checked the woven carpet to make it more smooth... Ashma, a 22-year-old female worker, told reporters: "The company has trained us, and I have learned how to operate the machine, and can make some simple categories. I can make 80 such small coasters a day, and I cherish this job opportunity."
"In Brabo, there are more than 2000 women working for Dada, who have never worked or only worked in agriculture for a living." Amir, general manager of Dada, told reporters that entering the Expo allowed them to contact buyers around the world, and the company's order volume is increasing every year. He said, "There are at least 10000 women skilled in making jute handicrafts in Bellabo Town. We hope to receive more orders and create jobs for more women."
"Open up a global market for jute handicrafts"
Exhibition, negotiation, interview... Saf and his wife, Tang He, have been busy at the site of the 7th China International Fair. Saf told the reporter that he has received many customers these days. They are interested in jute handicrafts and curious about the stories of Dada.
In 2018, Saf brought more than 170 kinds of jute handicrafts to the first Import Expo, which was the first time that Bangladeshi jute handicrafts were exhibited in China. At that time, Dada had only 10 employees. He said with emotion, "Although we only received orders from two Chinese customers at the first China Expo, it opened our trip to the Expo and played an important role in our entry into the Chinese market."
Since then, Dada has participated in all previous advanced expositions, and has continuously received orders from customers in China and other countries. The scale of the company has expanded rapidly. Amir said that at present, most of the company's products are exported to China, and they also opened stores on China's cross-border e-commerce platform, attracting many international buyers. At present, the annual turnover of the company exceeds BDT 100 million (about 6 million yuan). Saf said, "The fair has changed our business model and opened up a global market for jute handicrafts. This opportunity is priceless."
The 6-day Expo will share 365 days of opportunities in China. In Hongqiao Pinhui, not far from the National Convention and Exhibition Center (Shanghai), Dada's products have been displayed and sold here for a long time. Bangladesh jute handicrafts have gained more exposure and reach more consumers. As the company grows, Saf is considering introducing new product lines. At this year's Expo, he brought new products such as Bangladesh featured embroidery and seaweed handicrafts. Saf also had more thoughts on the word "responsibility": "I hope Dada can become a platform for more women to increase their income and live a better life."
"It is hoped that more Bangladeshi enterprises will participate in the Expo"
"Dada's success in the Expo is encouraging, and we hope that more Bangladeshi enterprises will participate in the Expo." Barryk, Secretary General of the Jute Enterprises Association of Bangladesh, happily told reporters that there are hundreds of enterprises like Dada in Bangladesh that export jute raw materials and products to China and other countries, and the Chinese market is very important for these enterprises.
Barek said that jute is called "golden fiber" in Bangladesh, and the related industry chain provides employment for a large number of people. China has a higher jute production technology. It is hoped that Bangladesh and China can also strengthen cooperation in this field in the future.
In addition to jute handicrafts, there are other handicrafts, leather products, textiles and other products in Bangladesh. Saf believed that the Expo could obtain first-hand information on the Chinese market and help enterprises develop products more suitable for Chinese consumers
"The Expo has not only promoted trade, but also promoted people to people and cultural exchanges. Entrepreneurs from different cultural backgrounds gathered here to share views and practices in the business field, bringing a very rich experience." Tang He told reporters that through the Expo and other platforms, China has shown a positive attitude of opening up and cooperation, highlighting the joint development with all parties, including the least developed countries A sincere desire for mutual benefit and win-win results.
