Announcement of National Bureau of statistics on cotton yield in 2020

According to the statistical survey of 31 provinces (districts and cities) in China (cotton planting area in Xinjiang is obtained through remote sensing measurement), the sown area, yield per unit area and total yield of cotton in 2020 are as follows:

1、 The sown area of cotton in China was 3169.9 thousand hectares (47.548 million mu), which was 169.4 thousand hectares (2.541 million mu) less than that in 2019, a decrease of 5.1%.

2、 China's cotton yield per unit area is 1864.5 kg / ha (124.3 kg / mu), an increase of 100.9 kg / ha (6.7 kg / mu) or 5.7% over that in 2019.

3、 China's total cotton output was 5.91 million tons, an increase of 21000 tons or 0.4% over that in 2019.

Cotton production in China and provinces (districts and cities) in 2020

Explanation of cotton yield statistical investigation system and method

The total cotton output in China is the sum of the cotton output of 31 provinces (districts and cities).

1、 Statistical survey methods

The statistical survey of cotton yield adopts the method of remote sensing measurement and sampling survey for main production areas and comprehensive statistics for non main production areas. The survey objects include land plots, agricultural production and management households and business units. In Xinjiang, the cotton planting area was obtained by remote sensing measurement, and the yield per unit area was obtained by sampling survey. The relevant investigation teams of the National Bureau of statistics are responsible for the sampling survey of cotton in seven major producing provinces of Hebei, Jiangsu, Anhui, Shandong, Henan, Hubei and Hunan, and the data of cotton area and yield per unit area are obtained by the statistical bureau of each province (District, city) through comprehensive statistics in other regions.

The sample survey objects of seven cotton producing provinces (Hebei, Jiangsu, Anhui, Shandong, Henan, Hubei and Hunan) are agricultural production and operation households. The survey is conducted by representative villagers' groups, farmers and plots selected from the province as a whole. The sowing area survey is to investigate all cotton planting areas in the sample points at the survey time point, and calculate the actual cotton planting area. The yield per unit area is calculated by household measurement.

Since 2014, the National Bureau of statistics has carried out cotton remote sensing survey in Xinjiang. Through the method of high and medium spatial resolution multi temporal satellite remote sensing images combined with ground sampling survey, the cotton planting area in Xinjiang was measured.

According to the cotton remote sensing survey and sampling survey in seven major cotton producing provinces in Xinjiang, the cotton planting area accounts for more than 97% of the total cotton area in China.

2、 Survey sample

The field survey of cotton remote sensing survey in Xinjiang includes more than 2000 samples, with a total of more than 500000 mu of land; more than 700 villagers' groups were selected from more than 100 national survey counties in seven major cotton producing provinces, and sampling survey was conducted in more than 100000 plots. Cotton yield per unit area was surveyed from nearly 1000 villagers' groups and nearly 10000 farmers in China.

3、 Measurement method

According to the statistical report system of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery, the cotton yield per unit area was obtained by field measurement and household measurement.

The field survey was carried out in the randomly selected area survey sample points. When the cotton mature period was approaching, the yield of all plots in the sample point was estimated. According to the yield level of the plots, five representative plots were selected as the measured plots by the way of equal distance sampling after area cumulative sorting. After the cotton ripens, three small plots were selected on the spot artificially, and the cotton yield was obtained through peach counting, weighing and loss checking.

When the maturity of cotton is approaching, the yield of all households in the sample point is estimated, and the average yield level of each household is calculated according to the yield of each plot; After the cotton is mature, 10 households are selected by the method of average yield per unit area of each household. After the cotton picking is finished, the household registration of cotton planting area, harvest, sales, storage, and self-use is carried out to calculate the unit yield level. According to the unit yield of the sample plots, the survey teams of the National Bureau of Statistics calculated the average output per unit area of the whole province (District, city).
