Hunan Xintian: Silkworm Industry Creates A "New Silk Road" For Getting Rich

Industrial prosperity is the key to rural revitalization. In the process of promoting the effective connection between consolidating the achievements of poverty alleviation and rural revitalization, Xintian County actively explored the path of industrial development with high economic benefits, successfully introduced new characteristic industries of mulberry planting and silkworm rearing, empowered rural revitalization, and boosted rural economic development.

On January 10, in Maojia Community of Sanjing Town, villagers were busy digging holes, filling soil and planting rows of mulberry seedlings in the newly ploughed dry land in sunny weather. In December last year, Guizhou Yinglan Mulberry Industry Co., Ltd., which is mainly engaged in the production, processing and sales of the whole industrial chain of silkworm, reached a project investment agreement with Xintian County, established Hunan Yinglan Mulberry Industry Co., Ltd. in Xintian, and built supporting silk reeling plants, cotton refineries and a sericulture pastoral complex integrating primary, secondary and tertiary industries. After the project landed in Xintian, the enterprise sent technical teams from Guizhou, Guangxi and other places to seize the opportunity to guide migrant villagers to plant mulberry trees throughout the process, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent industrial development.

"We have technical tracking services for all links, such as small silkworm breeding, large silkworm breeding, and mulberry planting." Liao Shuangmei, the technical director of Hunan Yinglan Mulberry Industry Co., Ltd., said that the enterprise plans to develop more than 30000 mu of mulberry planting area in Xintian within three years, and operates in the mode of "company+base+cooperative+farmers", providing mulberry seedlings, planting and breeding technical services The whole process of cocoon acquisition and other aspects will be guaranteed, and an industrial chain integrating mulberry planting, silkworm breeding, processing and sales will be gradually formed, which will directly or indirectly drive the employment of nearly 10000 people and promote the sustainable and healthy development of the sericulture industry.

Xia Jingbo, a young entrepreneur returning from Xinxiarong Village, Jiantou Town, is very optimistic about this emerging industry after his preliminary investigation. With the support of the agricultural department and the "two committees" of the village, Xia Jingbo established a specialized silkworm breeding cooperative, contracted 1200 mu of barren hills in the village to plant mulberry trees and develop the silkworm industry. "The soil quality of our village is very suitable for planting such drought resistant mulberry leaves, and the enterprise provides technical guidance throughout the process, and buys cocoons at a minimum, which solves my worries." Xia Jingbo is full of confidence. He said that the first plan is to develop 1200 mu, and then the scale will be expanded to drive the common development of villagers.

Up to now, Yinglansang has established 4 demonstration planting bases in Xintian and mobilized growers to plant 5000 mu of mulberry seedlings in 6 towns (streets).
