Ordos: Create Sustainable Fashion With Higher Quality From The Whole Industrial Chain And Strategic Height
August 15 is the first National Ecological Day. General Secretary Xi Jinping made important instructions to emphasize that on the new journey of building a socialist modern country in an all-round way, we should maintain the strategic determination to strengthen the construction of ecological civilization, focus on simultaneously promoting high-quality development and high-level protection, and take the "dual carbon" work as the guide to promote the dual control of energy consumption to gradually shift to dual control of carbon emissions, We will continue to promote the green and low-carbon transformation of the way of production and lifestyle, accelerate the modernization of harmonious coexistence between man and nature, and comprehensively promote the construction of a beautiful China.
In the textile industry, there are a number of practitioners led by the "double carbon" work.
"In today's business operation, sustainability is a direction that all enterprises cannot ignore. No matter what industry you are in, no matter what stage of development you are in. Green environmental protection and sustainable development have become a global trend. Continuously launching products and services that meet the requirements of environmental protection and sustainable development is not only a responsibility, but also a day for enterprises A forward-looking enterprise that always acts and faces the future will certainly attach importance to the relationship with nature and the environment, and must also have a sense of responsibility, otherwise it will not last long. " Recently, at the Global Fashion Summit held in Copenhagen, Denmark, the general manager of Ordos Cashmere Group, Daytona, took Ordos Source Pasture as an example to share with the world the view that enterprises need to "create higher quality sustainable development".
Ordos is the only enterprise in the world with a full cashmere industry chain, and its business scope covers cashmere procurement, primary processing, deep processing, garment production, brand promotion, channel construction, and product sales. It is precisely because of such a complete industrial chain that Ordos Group has embarked on a unique "sustainable fashion" development path.
Promoting sustainable development from a strategic perspective
The sustainable development practice of Ordos Group can be traced back to the 1990s. Ordos Group is an enterprise with cashmere as its core asset, and cashmere is a rare raw material with extremely low output. Therefore, it has become the tradition of Ordos Group to protect the source, protect the environment and respect nature.
In the 21st century, with the implementation of the concept of "sustainable fashion" in major international fashion brands, Ordos Group clearly saw the advantages of enterprises in carrying out "sustainable fashion". Based on the main cashmere industry, Ordos has already formed a vertical industrial chain covering from herdsmen to customers, from ranches to shopping malls, including combing, dyeing, spinning, knitting, clothing, etc. after 40 years of development. This means that its practice of sustainable fashion can break through the single point, connect from point to point, and form a plane from line. Moreover, because we can 100% control every link of the industrial chain and get the most real data, the sustainable research and strategy pursued by Ordos is more convincing and easier to achieve long-term sustainability.
Dai Tana, General Manager of Erdos Cashmere Group
"Because as the owner of the whole chain, we are all proud. If we do well, we are the biggest beneficiaries, otherwise we will be the biggest victims." Diana admitted.
In 2017, Ordos officially set sustainability as one of the Group's strategic priorities and formulated corresponding action plans. In 2019, the ERDOS Way Ordos Road was released, covering the three levels and eight aspects of the supply chain, brand and staff, and comprehensively demonstrating its systematic methodology in the industrial chain, from the source of building ultra-fine cashmere ranches, protecting and cultivating goat varieties to introducing new technologies and production models in the production process, As well as achieving continuous communication with various activities and consumers through innovative products at the retail terminal, Ordos truly runs sustainable fashion throughout the entire industrial chain.
On April 22, 2022, Ordos Group officially launched the Ordos Carbon Neutralization Project, announced to join the "30 • 60 Fashion Climate Innovation Carbon Neutralization Acceleration Plan" of the China Textile Industry Federation, further promoting the group's sustainable development process, and donated 2 million yuan to the Special Fund for Fashion Climate Innovation of the China Green Carbon sink Foundation, To support the climate innovation work of China's textile and clothing industry, and give play to brand influence to promote value chain partners and consumers to actively participate in the green, low-carbon and sustainable development of the industry and market.
Sustainable gene runs through the whole industry chain
In Ordos, from raw materials, production, design to packaging, logistics and consumption, every link fully embodies the sustainable concept of environmental protection, green and low-carbon. Ordos hopes to lead the industry to take a green and high-quality development path through the sustainable green practice of the cashmere industry chain, so that consumers can gradually accept and practice the green lifestyle while enjoying warmth and fashion.
In terms of raw materials, since the 1990s, Ordos has started to protect pastures. At the same time, in order to protect the enthusiasm of herdsmen to raise sheep and collect cashmere, Ordos has always insisted on purchasing high-quality cashmere at a high price. By 2017, Ordos Cashmere Group will start to comprehensively carry out the construction of pastures, set up promotion centers in major cashmere goat breeding regions in the country, establish deep cooperation with local governments and cooperatives, connect the vast number of cashmere goat farmers, vigorously promote quality and good price, and guide and drive herdsmen to raise ultra-fine cashmere goats through economic incentives. In September 2022, the "Ordos Source Pasture" was inaugurated, and a sustainable demonstration pasture integrating scientific breeding, scientific research demonstration, training and promotion, and cashmere collection and storage was established, based on the protection of precious grassland resources and the protection of fine goat breeds. Ordos has developed and launched the "Ordos · Source Pasture" applet, which has become a window for consumers to understand the sustainable raw materials and production information behind clothing. The spread of sustainable work has become a link to connect consumers.
After going through the raw material end, we enter the production link. Here, adopting water-saving technology and improving production capacity is the key to sustainable production of Ordos Group. In cashmere washing, Ordos Group has researched and applied the latest technology, and took the lead in realizing phosphatized cashmere cleaning and ultrasonic cashmere washing in the industry to save water by 20%; In the dyeing process, continue to study and adopt micro suspension dyeing technology, plant dye dyeing technology, phosphorus free decolorization technology, dyeing free technology and self-cleaning finishing technology to protect the quality characteristics of cashmere natural fibers to the maximum extent and achieve water saving of more than 50%; The application of automatic flocking equipment and the improvement and optimization of the flocking and color fixing process can save water and steam by 15% and finishing time by 40%, so that the green dyeing and finishing technology can be fully upgraded; In sewage treatment, measures such as sludge harmless disposal, water recycling and process shortening have been taken to increase the water reuse rate to 80%. Ordos Group has also made great efforts to reform the combing equipment, which has greatly increased the production capacity.
Ordos also pioneered the cashmere product life cycle assessment (LCA) system in the industry. Through this system, we can clearly see how much greenhouse gas emissions and primary energy consumption a cashmere sweater will produce from production to packaging. This data provides data support for the cashmere industry to further optimize and improve the technical level of the whole process of cashmere production, and continue to reduce resource consumption and environmental damage.
In addition to vigorously promoting green production, Ordos Group has also added sustainable genes to product design. Ordos still retains many artificial skills that cannot be replaced by machines in the manufacturing process. A cashmere sweater can only be completed after 120 processes. Such a work of art also determines that cashmere products are not FMCG products and can be well preserved and passed on to the next generation.
Coat and corset
In addition, cashmere does not need to be cleaned frequently. Its maintenance can reduce water consumption and save energy. For this reason, Ordos has been advocating consumers to establish the correct consumption concept and teach the correct maintenance method, so as to promote consumers to develop the awareness of cherishing products, change their consumption behavior, pass on the awareness of environmental protection, and encourage designs that consume less energy and use less water. On November 7, 2018, the "Ordos 1980" brand officially launched the project of "coat shining small clothes". Customers only need to send the old Erdos adult cashmere sweater to the Erdos store, and they can receive the same children's clothing product made from it. The significance of this action not only lies in "waste utilization", giving cashmere sweater a second life, but also passing on the warm feelings contained in it from generation to generation.
Undyed cashmere
Based on the commitment to sustainable production design, in 2019, Ordos launched the SH and N series clothing with renewable cashmere, yak cashmere, non dyed cashmere, full shape knitwear, traceable cashmere and self-cleaning cashmere knitwear as the core products, redefined the relationship between fashion and environmental protection, and expressed to consumers the brand concept of respecting nature, protecting ecology, and recycling.
Ordos also leads the industry in formulating national green standards, focusing on the controllability of water, electricity, steam and other energy and chemical substances in the actual production process, as well as the reasonable and gradual decline in the amount. Pay attention to the use and recycling of packaging materials, and reasonably plan the transportation and distribution system. At present, the Ordos cashmere knitting product green processing design industrialization demonstration line has been established, and has obtained the "green design product" and "green factory" certification issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China, the "international confidence textile" and the "MADE IN GREEN" certification issued by the Swiss Environmental Protection Textile Testing Association.
Make good use of dividends to promote the "double carbon" development of the industry
As one of the world's famous enterprises, Ordos has made remarkable achievements in sustainable fashion development, but it has also experienced various difficulties behind it.
For how to overcome difficulties and promote low-carbon development of enterprises, Diana believes that the most critical factor is that enterprises should have a deep understanding of low-carbon development from top to bottom. The business scope of Ordos covers cashmere procurement, primary processing, deep processing, garment production, brand promotion, channel construction, and product sales. Its low-carbon transformation is a systematic and long-term work that needs to be considered comprehensively. For this reason, Ordos has set up a special sustainable working group at the beginning of the project launch to coordinate the low-carbon development work among various departments, communicate the long-term vision of low-carbon development of the group, and make the group fully understand the significance of low-carbon development. At the same time, we internally spread the progress and achievements of the Group's low-carbon development, and launched staff activities such as green knowledge contests, low-carbon clocking, etc., to popularize the concept and knowledge of green development, so that the internal drive can promote the change of behavior.
Under the joint promotion of all departments and links of the Group, Ordos released the group level strategy "ERDOS Way Ordos Way" in 2019, and formulated the sustainable development strategy of the cashmere industry chain covering upstream pastures, midstream manufacturing, and downstream consumption, making a strategic deployment for the Group's low-carbon development.
Dai Tana introduced that enterprises still face certain difficulties in low-carbon development. For example, enterprises involved in a large amount of data collection, management and work in the development of low-carbon goals, emission reduction planning and monitoring and tracking of actual emission reduction work. At present, there is a lack of data collection and management tools and carbon emission measurement tools that can be applied to the apparel industry chain. It is hoped that it can be supported by carbon emission measurement tools and carbon big data management tools suitable for the clothing industry. In addition, low-carbon technology R&D and innovation is the key breakthrough of low-carbon transformation, while the enterprise's own R&D resources and strength, supporting technologies are limited, which is difficult. From R&D to the practical application and transformation of scientific research achievements, the cycle is long and the cost is high. It is hoped that a low-carbon technology sharing platform can be established in the industry to exchange experience and share common technologies, so as to help enterprises accelerate their transformation to low-carbon.
Di Tana believes that low-carbon development is an inevitable choice for long-term development of enterprises, which is a systematic long-term project and requires enterprises to act as soon as possible. In addition, in the context of "carbon neutrality", the state will also introduce relevant policy guarantees and incentive bonuses. Enterprises should seize the opportunity to turn green and low-carbon development into new business growth points and core competitiveness of enterprises. As a leader in the cashmere industry, in the future, Ordos Group will more actively carry out climate change governance and low-carbon transformation, promote the concept of sustainability in every link of the whole value chain, strive to reduce carbon emissions, practice a green low-carbon lifestyle, and help achieve the goal of "double carbon"!
